HISTORY
Stella Athletic Club (Stella AC) is known primarily as a Road Running and Race Walking Club. We cater for various distances ranging from 10 kilometres through to the Comrades Marathon, and have recently started a Beginners Section, for those that are keen on starting to learn how to run.

On the Walking front we cater for distances ranging from the shortest of races through to the Dolphin Coast Ultra Walk along the North Coast and the Great Walk which is held in Cape Town. Return to top of page

Stella AC is a sub-section of a main club, namely Stella Sports Club. Other sub-sections of Stella Sports Club are those of the Soccer Section, Snooker Section, Astro Soccer Section. There are also a number of social members that are not affiliated to any sporting sub-section but who enjoy the facilities that Stella has to offer, such as Shapes Gym, Weighless Classes and the Restaurants on the property.

WHERE ARE WE ?
We are based in Durban, more specifically at 175 Helen Joseph Avenue, (Known as Davenport Road), Glenwood. We have a full time Club Manager that is available each weekday during normal office hours. The Club manager is in a position to answer most queries. Queries more specific to any of the sub-sections may be referred to a relevant sub-section committee member.

The later group runs according to a structured programme which is aimed at different races during the year. The programmes cater for sub 3 hour marathons (42,2km), sub 4 hour ultra marathons (52 to 56 km) and a silver at the Comrades Marathon (sub 7 hours 30 minutes). Training programmes are released regularly and will be published on our WEB page.

On Saturday mornings all the running groups join together and run a route traditionally known as the "Gilly's" route. The run starts from the Stella Club House at 6am during the winter months and at 5:30am during summer (October through April) More info: Saturday Gillie's Run

The Walkers also have a training session on Saturday mornings. The group departs from various venues and it is best to contact the Club to find out the venue for the next Saturday walk. Return to top of page

WHEN DO WE SOCIALISE ?
After our training sessions, not compulsory but enjoyable. Why not join us in the Athletics Den. Visitors are most welcome to join us in any of the training sessions and are invited to the Athletic Club Den for refreshments and to socialise with our Athletes. If you are planning a holiday in Durban, don't give up your training, join us at Stella. Return to top of page

WHAT ELSE DO WE DO ?
Every second and every last Thursday of each month we hold our Time Trial (5 or 8 kilometres). All Runners and Walkers, irrespective of what Club they belong to, are welcome. All participants in the Time Trial held on the last Thursday of the month are eligible for the numerous lucky draw prizes that are handed out once all the runners/walkers have finished.

Directly after the month end Time Trial we hold a very social braai. This monthly event sees most of the Club membership and their families get together for a good social evening.

Stella Athletic Club has their own Club Den and Bar which is the only non-smoking bar in Durban. Our bar is air-conditioned to provide some relief during summer and is very cosy during winter, especially when sipping a glass of sherry.

Every second month we send out a newsletter to all members. The newsletter contains a variety of interesting Athletic related articles, race reports, away race stories, race results, forthcoming events etc. Return to top of page
